Emergency Response Services

Your UXO Emergency Response Plan will be designed to minimise the impact of unexpected incidents should they occur. Each procedure in your ERP will consider both impact and reducing risk when issues arise and will summarise your core lines of communication.

The aim of an Emergency Response Plan document is to offer guidance to site supervisors in managing UXO risk during excavation works and should be incorporated into each individual site’s Health and Safety plan.

If suspected UXO is encountered during a project, on-site observation of the guidance offered within the ERP will support site personnel to manage the incident in the safest possible way.

An appropriate person (often a Site Supervisor) and a deputy should be nominated to be responsible for the implementation of the ERP on-site in the event of an incident. They would need to be on hand to provide briefings to the emergency services and, if required, to local residents and the media.

Their duties should also include, but not be limited to:

  • Liaising with the bomb disposal emergency service to maintain a rapid UXO response

  • Informing senior management of the explosive ordnance emergency response

  • Reviewing UXO discovery protocols - Fellows can assist with this service
