In accordance with statistics gained through the British Allied and German axis records and research an average of 10% of all bombs dropped during the war malfunctioned and lay buried and unexploded in the ground or seabed. Wartime minesweeping procedure was to cut the mooring wire and puncture shells of buoyant mines to cause them to sink. Some still remain undisturbed on the seabed today.
